About Mary Harman
- These are gentle rants about everyday life --- being a grownup, relationships, loss, tears, dogs, nature, aging, getting to make art or whatever it is you like to do.
My art career began in the 1960’s when I sold thousands of handmade headbands to a local pre-teen clothing shop. I've circled me back to what I knew then: making things is fun. I make rants to explore and make sense of anything and everything. More than 200 rants are stuffed under my bed and they keep on coming.
After graduate school (planning and business), and then art school, I have worked many years in corporate communications to get other people’s messages across. These rants are MY messages, my poetry, my art. My earliest rants were made the year I turned 51, and only in looking back do I see them as the way to find what I’d lost.
At 51, I was the same age that my mom was when she died suddenly. Eight months before her death, my 28-year old husband had died after a short battle with ravaging cancer. I was 27. These unbearable losses launched years of wandering and seeking that eventually led me to simple truths: don’t run from those you love, or from the events that have shaped you. Come home, find what you have almost lost.

They are shipped in clear bags and ready to give or to drop into standard pre-made frames available at art, craft and other stores. Please note that the copyright notice that runs near the bottom of each image does not appear on the actual prints! Quantities can be updated in your cart when you check out. Please email me to order and ship outside of the continental US.
